INTRODUCTION
 Machines release major amount of heat generated
during their working through convection process.
 The rate of convective heat transfer depends upon
the wind speed, geometry of the surface, external
surface area and the ambient temperature.
 To increase the convective heat transfer one can
increase the effective surface area by using fins.
OBJECTIVE
 The main objective of the project is to improve the
effectiveness of a fin by changing its geometry.
SCOPE
 There is scope of improvement in increasing the
effectiveness of fin by varying the following
parameters:
 Fin thickness
 Orientation of the fin
 Various geometry of fin

METHODOLOGY
Review of
literature

Detailed study about various

geometry of fins
Design the geometry
of fin
Analysis the temperature distribution of designed
fin using ANSYS

Compare the temperature distribution of designed

fin with some standard fins.

Conclusion
Formulaused fornumericalcalculation

 Forrectangular fin
 T=Ta+(Tb-Ta)(cosh(m(L-X)))/(cosh(mL)
 For triangular fin
 T=Ta+(Tb-Ta) Io(2B√x)/Io(2B√L)
Calculation Results
 The temperature difference between fin
along length is minimum upto
certaindistance fortriangular when
coompare with rectangular fin from
base
 Aftercertain distance from the base the
above trend reversed.
