RF cable connector attachment (Commscope)

Field resource competence training


This presentation will cover training on connector preparation on two feeder
cable types (50 ohm, 7/8”)

1. AVA6-50 HELIAX® Andrew Virtual Air™ Coaxial Cable, corrugated copper, 1-


1/4 in, black PE jacket (Halogen free jacketing non-fire-retardant)

2. FXL-540, HELIAX® Flexible Coaxial Cable, smooth-wall aluminum, 1/2 in, black
PE jacket
AVA6-50 HELIAX® Andrew Virtual Air™ Coaxial Cable, corrugated copper, 1-1/4 in, black
PE jacket (Halogen free jacketing non-fire-retardant)
FXL-540, HELIAX® Flexible Coaxial Cable, smooth-wall
aluminum, 1/2 in, black PE jacket
RF cable (AVA6-50) connector attachment using
connector 78EZDF connector (COMMSCOPE)
STEPS:

1. Cut the cable perpendicularly using the plastic saw guide included with the cable
preparation tool

2. Core the cable, Measure center conductor against the back nut or use front of
preparation tool

3. Carefully remove the di-electric material by using a knife

4. Clean the center conductor and deburr with a file

5. Place and lubricate the O-ring and cable jacketing, Install and tighten the back nut

6. Flair and clean debris

7. Install front nut and tighten


Required tools
STEP 1: strip the cable with knife and attach cable preparation tool
STEP 2: Use hand tool to strip cable
STEP 2: Measure center conductor against the back nut
STEP 3: Carefully remove the di-electric material by using a knife
STEP 4: Clean the center conductor and deburr with a
file
STEP 5: Place and lubricate the O-ring and cable jacketing
STEP 5: Install and tighten the back nut, turn the backnut with a 34”
spanner till it locks
