SOCRATES

Socrates is a Greek philosopher


who lived in Athens in the 5 th

century BC. Of all the ancient


greek philosophers, none can
surpass the popularity of the
Big Three. These were Socrates,
Plato, and Aristotle.

Metaphysical Speculations-
generally seek to explain
inherent or universal
elements of reality which are
not easily discovered or
experienced in our everyday
life.
Socrates wanted to
discover the essential
nature of knowledge,
justice, beauty, and
goodness.
However Socrates did
not write anything. He
was not a writer.
SOCRATIC METHOD
Socrates method for discovering
what is essential to the world and in
people is called the Socratic
method/dialectic method. In this type
of method, Socrates did not lecture,
instead he would ask questions and
engage the person in a discussion.
Socrates said that
“The unexamined
life is not worth
living”
Socrates believed that his
mission in life was to seek
the highest knowledge
and convince others who
were willing to seek
knowledge with him.
