including explanatory and predictive modeling,[2] and fact-based management to drive
decision making.
Why
Business

MS Excel? • You'll learn the basic concepts of data analysis and
statistics, helping promote data-driven decision making.

• You will also become trained in Power BI, so you can better
visually represent and present your data analysis findings.

• Your new knowledge of these two commonly used tools

combined with official business analytics certification is
guaranteed to ensure career success.
What is a Pivot
Table?
• A pivot table is a program tool that allows you to
reorganize and summarize selected columns and
rows of data in a spreadsheet or database table to
obtain a desired report.

• Pivot tables are used to summarize, sort, reorganize,

group, count, total or average data stored in a
database. It allows its users to transform columns
into rows and rows into columns. It allows grouping
by any data field.
Data Selected
for Pivot Table

Our data set consists of 213 records and 6 fields. Order ID, Product, Category,
Amount, Date and Country.
STEP 1 : Click any single cell inside the data set.

STEP 2 : On the Insert tab, in the Tables group, click

PivotTable.
The following dialog box
appears. Excel automatically
selects the data for you. The
default location for a new
pivot table is New Worksheet.

STEP 3: Click OK.

product, drag the following fields to
the different areas.

1. Product field to the Rows area.

2. Amount field to the Values area.

3. Country field to the Filters area.

Below you can find the pivot
table. Bananas are our main
export product. That's how
easy pivot tables can be!
Now there are some
additional features in
Excel’s Pivot table to
analyse the date from
different perspectives
which includes :
• Sort
• Filter
• Summary Calculation
SORT
• To get Banana at the top of the list, sort the pivot table.

• 1. Click any cell inside the Sum of Amount column.

• 2. Right click and click on Sort, Sort Largest to Smallest.

• Result :
FILTER

• Because we added the Country

field to the Filters area, we can
filter this pivot table by Country.
For example, which products do
we export the most to France?

• 1. Click the filter drop-down and

select France.

• Result. Apples are our main

export product to France.

Two-dimensional Pivot
Table
• If you drag a field to the Rows area and Columns area, you can create a
two-dimensional pivot table. First, insert a pivot table. Next, to get the
total amount exported to each country, of each product, drag the
following fields to the different areas.

• 1. Country field to the Rows area.

• 2. Product field to the Columns area.

• 3. Amount field to the Values area.

• 4. Category field to the Filters area.

• RESULT :
PIVOT • A pivot chart is the visual representation of a
pivot table in Excel. Pivot charts and pivot tables
CHARTS are connected with each other.
Insert Pivot Chart
• To insert a pivot chart, execute the

How to following steps.

make a • 1. Click any cell inside the pivot table.

Pivot Chart • 2. On the Analyze tab, in the Tools

group, click PivotChart.

Change Pivot Chart
Type
You can change to a different type of pivot chart at
any time.

1. Select the chart.

2. On the Design tab, in the Type group, click Change

Chart Type.

3. Choose Pie.
RESULT

*Note: pie charts always use

one data series (in this case,
Apples).
UTILITY OF BUSINESS
ANALYTICS IN MS
EXCEL
• Microsoft Excel is one of the top tools for data analysis and the built-in pivot tables are arguably the most
popular analytic tool.

• Producing valuable insights from the accumulated data.
• Pivots are used in many different industries by millions of users who share the goal of reporting the
performance of companies and organizations.
• Pivot charts and slicers can be used together to visualize data and create easy to use dashboards
Policy Details Customer Details

Data Selected
for V-LOOKUP

Our data set consists of 12 records and 6 fields. Customer ID, Policy ID, Product ID, Premium,
Quantity and Category in Policy details and Customer ID, Name, Gender, Age, Quantity, Vintage
(in months) for customer details.
VLOOKUP ()
It helps to search a value in a table and
returns a corresponding value. Let’s look at
the table (Policy and Customer). In Policy
table, we want to map city name from the
customer tables based on common key
“Customer id”. Here, function vlookup()
would help to perform this task.

Step 1: After selection of the data, put formula VLOOKUP(B4, $H$4:$L$15,

5, 0) and this will return the city name for all the Customer id 1 and post
that copy this formula for all Customer ids.
RESULT :

We searched city name for policy id on the

basis of customer id from other excel sheet
(Book 2).
Data Selected for
Concatenate
(),LEN(), Proper()
and TRIM()

Our data set consists of 213 records and 6 fields. Order ID, Product, Category,
Amount, Date and Country.
CONCATENATE ()
It is very useful to combine text from two or
more cells into one cell. For example: we
want to create a URL based on input of host
name and request path.

Step 1: After selection of the data, put formula (=CONCATENATE(B2,C2))

RESULT :

Both the data carrots and vegetables got

compiled and it resulted in
carrotsvegetables.
LEN()
This function tells you about the length of a
cell i.e. number of characters including
spaces and special characters.

Step 1: After selection of the data, put formula (=LEN(B2))

RESULT :

If length of carrots needs to be checked,

then by applying LEN formula, we can see
that length of carrots is 7.
LOWER()
This function help to change the text to
lower sentence case respectively (First letter
of each word capital).

Step 1: After selection of the data, put formula (=LOWER(Text))

RESULT :

If we have selected Vegetables, then when

we choose lower formula, then all letters of
column C2 will come in small letters i.e.
Vegetables becomes vegetables.
UPPER()
This function help to change the text to
upper sentence case respectively (First letter
of each word capital).

Step 1: After selection of the data, put formula (=UPPER(Text))

RESULT :

If we have selected Vegetables, then when

we choose upper formula, then all letters of
column C2 will come in capital letters,i.e.
Vegetables becomes VEGETABLES.
PROPER()
This function will help to change the text in
proper way to present respectively.

Step 1: After selection of the data, put formula (=PROPER(Text))

RESULT :

If we have selected Vegetables, then when

we choose proper formula, then all letters of
column C2 will come in correct format,i.e.
Vegetables will remain Vegetables.
TRIM()
This is a handy function used to clean text
that has leading and trailing white space.
Often when you get a dump of data from a
database the text you’re dealing with is
padded with blanks. And if you don’t deal
with them, they are also treated as unique
entries in a list, which is certainly not
helpful.

Step 1: After selection of the data, put formula (= Trim(Text))

RESULT :

If we have selected C2, there is a space

between the two word, so trim function
helps in removing those spaces i.e.
Vegetables fruits will become
Vegetablesfruits.

Data Selected
for IF

Our data set consists of 12 records and 6 fields. Customer ID, Policy ID, Product
ID, Premium, Quantity and Category.
IF()
It is one of the most useful function in excel.
It lets you use conditional formulas
which calculate one way when a certain
thing is true, and another way when false.
For example, you want to mark each sales as
“High” and “Low”. If sales is greater than or
equals to $5000 then “High” else “Low”.

Step 1: After selection of the data, put formula (=IF(condition, True

Statement, False Statement)
RESULT :

In Category, when we used the if formula,

we got a result whether a particular
statement is low or high.
