LOUVRE MUSEUM
 It is the most important museum in Paris and the world.
 The Louvre Museum is located in the magnificent Palais du Louvre (Louvre
Palace), a 13th-century fortress that was ordered to be built by Felipe
Augusto and that in the 16th century was rebuilt to house the royal
residence. From 1793 when the Revolutionary Convention is when it
becomes the museum it is today. This conversion from palace to museum
carries with it the convictions of the French Revolution of 1789, so that the
enjoyment of art ceases to be something exclusive to the upper classes to
open the doors to the first museum accessible to all types of public.
 Open to the public since 1793, it has more than 380,000 objects and 35,000
works of art. It is a universal institution, both for the works it exhibits and for
the number of annual visits: it receives more than 8 million visitors each year.
 It houses collections of Western art from the oldest civilizations and the Middle Ages
until 1850. Divided into several sections: Oriental Antiquities, Islamic Art, Egyptian,
Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities, and paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints
of the modern era and until 1848, it also has an apartment on the history of Louvre itself
and there are 21 new rooms dedicated to Italian and Spanish painting of the 16th and
17th centuries. Here you can admire the main and true masterpieces such as the Venus
de Milo, the winged victory of Samothrace, the Mona Lisa of Leonardo da Vinci and
many others.
 It is the most visited art museum in the world and the oldest in Paris, and its glass
pyramid (main entrance through the central courtyard), designed by the architect Ming
Pei, was inaugurated in 1989 on the occasion of the bicentenary of the French
Revolution.
 In 2018, the Louvre Museum broke its attendance record by welcoming 10.2 million
visitors, an increase of 25% compared to 2017. To date, no museum in the world has
reached this figure. His previous record was in 2012, year of inauguration of the
Department of Islamic Arts and exhibitions around Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael, with
9.7 million visitors.

211 centimeters high and weighs
900 kilos, which underlines its
monumentality. It was designed to
be appreciated from all sides.
 The piece represents one of the
most revered goddesses, both by
the Greeks and the Romans. The
ORIENTAL Greeks designated her Aphrodite
ANTIQUITIES and the Romans Venus. For both
cultures, it was the goddess of
fertility, beauty and love.

corresponds to Venus because it
is represented with the naked

MONA LISA
 La Gioconda or Mona Lisa is one of the most
emblematic portraits in the history of painting.
Painted by Leonardo Da Vinci in the 16th
century.
 The composition technique of the Gioconda
makes this one of the most studied works in
the history of art and by apprentice artists. It is
appreciated for its very modern framing, like a
portrait that could be made today. More subtly,
optical effects are created by the location of
the young woman's eyes and her discreet
smile. There are those who say that they feel
the impression of being constantly observed
by the Gioconda
