HUMANITY CROSSED
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this lesson, the students should be
able to:
 Know the different technological advancements
in society;
 Discuss the development of science and
technology in the Philippines;
 Discuss the effects of the interplay between
technology and humanity through the
dilemma(s) they face.
Technology Humanity

 The word “technology” came from the Greek word techñe and logos which mean “art” and
“word”;
 Technology means a discourse on arts (Buchanan, 2010);
 All humans in the society is directly or indirectly affected by technology whether he/she
wills or not;
 There are people considered technology as a necessity and no longer a want or pleasure;
 In general, technology keeps on progressing due to not only the changing times and
environment but also to the ever-progressing mind of mankind.
Television Sets, Mobile Phones,
Computers, and Humanity
 People all over the world use these technologies every day
to accomplish different purposes;
 In the Philippines, 92% of urban homes and 70% rural
homes own at least one television set;
 Filipino population own at least one mobile phone
regardless of type and also considered it as a must-have
technology;
 While computers and laptops are become part of the
necessities in offices, businesses, and schools.

 Philippines has one of the highest digital populations in the world;


 There are 47 million active Facebook accounts in the Philippines;
 Philippines is the fastest-growing application market in Southeast Asia.

Robotics and Humanity
 Robot is another great product of the innovative minds of the people;
 There are so-called service robots which they do specific tasks but focus mainly in
assisting their masters in their everyday tasks;
 There are different working definition for robots, according to International Federation of
Robotics (IFR);
a. Service Robot
b. Personal Service Robot or Service Robot for Personal Use
c. Professional Service Robot or Service Robot for Professional Use
Roles Played By

Robots play different roles not only in the lives of people
but also in the society as a whole, such as:
(1) They are primarily used to ease the workload of
mankind
(2) They are made for pleasure
(3) They are also made to serve as toys
