INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL
ASSESSMENT OF THE SCHOOL
Paniangan Elementary(Characterization)
School is currently challenged on the pupils’ academic
(Characterization)
performance. Only 38 pupils or 19.49% of the total population attained with honors
with the average of 90-94. It is eventually discovered or observed that no learners
obtained “With High Honors” and “With Highest Honors” for first grading period this
school year 2019-2020. It was found out that pupils were present on their attendance
2 out 5 school days in a week wherein it needs more attention and quite alarming.
Others reasons indicated were the following: a)distance from home to school-6 out of
10 pupils’ houses located far from the school. They need to walk because their
homes were not accessible for transportation; b) Child labor-8 out of 10 pupils’
parents income below 5, 000 a month. They need to work in order to feed his/her
siblings. On the other hand, learners are forced to find other means of income to
sustain their daily needs; and c) Family Problems- pupils were only living with their
guardians and grandparents.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL
ASSESSMENT OF THE SCHOOL
In addition, inadequate textbooks have experienced especially in grade 6 class.
(Characterization)
They only received Mathematics and EsP textbooks for the last two years. The
teacher herself finds other ways to solve this current issue. Resourcefulness
entered to address the needs and interests of the pupils and to attain the learning
competencies to be achieved in a grading period. This might be one of the reasons
on the poor study habit of the children because they can’t access relevant topics on
their discussions in school. Aside from that, It was found out that the reasons
behind of their difficulty in assessing their lessons/reading difficulty because their
parents also are not good in reading.
Eventually, these reasons were studied, investigated and validated to come up
such adjustments or interventions to address the existing problem.

ADJSUTMENTS, STRATEGIES AND
RECOMMENDATIONS
Through the thorough investigation, focused group discussion and interviewed done to the learners and
parents involved on this learners’ academic performance, teachers and the school head came up with
different interventions to solve the existing issue as follows: a) An Enhanced Remedial Instruction was duly
implemented on the specific learning areas where the learners failed based on their MPS. At 12:oo to 1:00
pm and 4:30-5:00, learners were advised to go to the assigned teacher to conduct the remedial instruction
and closely-monitored and evaluated; b) Extending time on the conduct of Remedial Instruction; c) Home
Visitation where teachers and school worked together for the common goal to monitor the attendance of the
learners and visit their homes to actually identify the common causes of absences; d) Parents-Teachers’
Conference wherein teachers call monthly conference with the parents to address solutions on the existing
problem; and f) Parents Counselling where parents have worked together to mitigate and even solve the
issue and let them involve on their part of the complete attendance of their children in school.
Furthermore, to sustain these interventions, there is a need to closely monitor their attendance and make
immediate responses.
Consequently, it is then highly recommended that teachers should be committed on giving remedial
instructions, thus merits of recognition be given to compensate the effort extended beyond, there will be
regular communication with the parents and tapping stakeholders in sustaining the interventions mentioned.
ADJSUTMENTS, STRATEGIES AND
RECOMMENDATIONS

It is highly recommended also to the higher authorities to respond the needs of the teachers and learners
especially on the provision of textbooks. It’s been two years already of experiencing this lack of textbooks
particularly the grade six class which was been evaluated as one of the reasons of poor study habit of the
pupils. They don’t even have any sources of knowledge to be studied at home. They were only dependent on
the lessons presented in a particular day aside from the assignments given.
Lastly, a need to conduct policy review on the giving of Academic Excellence Award to the honor learners.
It seems the general average is too high for them to achieve and only few learners would be able to attain.
