present needs while ensuring its and others’ long-
term survival

A business’s contribution to

• and economic prosperity
is referred to as the triple bottom line

Social impact - people
• The social impact of a business’s operations is
viewed both internally and externally and ensures
that the business’s entire operations across the
supply chain are socially responsible and ethical.

(The business that focuses exclusively on its

Economic impact - Profit
• Economic impact does not refer to the profitability
of the business as indicated on the financial
statements, although profitability is critical for
survival.
• The sustainable business will consider its own
economic impact on the communities in which it
operates.
• The sustainable business’s contribution to a strong
and healthy local economy will lead to a strong and
healthy future for the business
