How can I place a
telephone order?
When you want to place a telephone order, reserve or book;
keep the following information at hand:

• The item number you wish to order, reserve or book


• The size, kind, specific place you want to order, reserve or
book
• Your initial (s) and last name
• Your address details (street name, house number, postcode
and city)
• Your telephone number (so that we can reach you with any
questions)
• Your e-mail address (so that we can inform you as soon as
we send your order and you can follow the shipment via a
track & trace)
On the phone – Ordering a Pizza

Vocabulary:
Take-out:
something made to be taken out, especially food prepared
in a store or restaurant to be carried out for consumption
elsewhere.
Line is engaged/ Line Busy: already in use,busy, tied up,
unavailable.
Long distance call : telephone call made outside a certain
area, usually characterized by an area code outside of
a local call.
Hold : to keep in a specified state.
Connect :link.
Mute: to stop someone from hearing your voice over a
telephone especially by using a mute button
Call Transfer: to move a call from one person to another.

When you order pizza in English, there are three decisions
you have to make:
Size: What size pizza do you want? An individual slice or a
whole pizza? Small, medium, large, or extra large (x-large)?
Crust: White crust or wheat? Stuffed crust (more cheese!)?
Toppings:What do you want on it? Choose your toppings!
Booking a hotel room in English. Useful vocabulary to
describe hotel rooms and facilities.
Receptionist: — Good afternoon, San Felice Hotel. May I help you?
Mrs Ryefield: — Yes. I´d like to book a room, please.
Receptionist: — Certainly. When for, madam?
Mrs Ryefield: — March the 23rd.
Receptionist: — How long will you be staying?
Mrs Ryefield: — Three nights.
Receptionist: — What kind of room would you like, madam?
Er... double with bath. I´d appreciate it if you could give me a

Certainly, madam. I´ll just check what we have available. . .

Receptionist: — It´s eighty four euro per night excluding VAT.
Mrs Ryefield: — That´s fine.
Receptionist: — Who´s the booking for, please, madam?
Mrs Ryefield: — Mr and Mrs Ryefield, that´s R-Y-E-F-I-E-L-D.
Okay, let me make sure I got that: Mr and Mrs Ryefield.
Receptionist: — Double with bath for March the 23rd, 24th and 25th. Is that
correct?
Mrs Ryefield: — Yes it is. Thank you.
Let me give you your confirmation number. It´s: 7576385. I´ll
Receptionist: — repeat that: 7576385. Thank you for choosing San Felice
Hotel and have a nice day. Goodbye.

Caller: Hello, could you help me? I need to make a dinner reservation.

Caller: Saturday night, please. At 7:30.
Receptionist : How many people will be in your group?
Caller: We need a reservation for six.
Receptionist: Alright, and would you like to choose for meeting room or
family room?
Caller: A family room, please.
Receptionist: And can I have your name, Sir?
Caller: It’s Adam Smith.
Receptionist: So Mr. Smith, I will repeat, a reservation for six this
Saturday night at 7:30, is that right?
Caller: All is right, thanks for the help!

Receptionist: Okay, let me repeat back to you the information I have. A
reservation for the Tuesday after next for ten at 8 p.m; is that correct?

capsule hotel around Simpang 5. For booking/reserving restaurant, please
browse Kampung Laut, Steak and Shake, Kakoii and Lin’s restaurant in
Semarang.
2. Study and practice yourself ordering, reserving and booking by phone from
places mentioned in number 1.
3. Let’s have Fundamental English Speaking final test by calling me directly
to my number and listen carefully what place I mention, then follow the role
for you as the caller and I as the receptionist based on places listed in
number 1. Speaking score will be based on comprehension (15%),
