14. The crown is covered with enamel, and the
root portion is covered with cementum. The
crown and root join at the cementoenamel
junction (CEJ). This junction, also called the
cervical line.
15. Embrasures (Spillways) – When two teeth
in the same arch are in contact, their curvatures
adjacent to the contact areas form spillway
spaces called embrasures.
16. Initially as teeth erupts the teeth contact
each other at a point – contact point.
17. The area of the mesial or distal surface of a
tooth that touches its neighbor in the arch is
called the contact area..
• Proximal convexity of the teeth create area of
contact between adjacent teeth with in the
same arch. These are called the Proximal
contact area.
18. The interproximal spaces between the teeth
are triangularly shaped spaces normally filled by
gingival tissue (gingival papillae).
The base of the triangle is the alveolar process,
the sides of the triangle are the proximal
surfaces of the contacting teeth, and the apex of
the triangle is in the area of contact.
19. The incisal ridge is that portion of the crown
which makes up the complete incisal portion.
This ridge portion of the crown is called the
incisal ridge.
• The term edge implies an angle formed by the
merging of two flat surfaces.
20. The incisal edge is formed by the junction of
the linguoincisal surface, sometimes called the
incisal surface, and the labial surface.
