Power Generation
• Salient pole generators – All hydro-turbine generators
utilize this style of synchronous generator which consist
of individually wound poles.

• Speed control critical – For synchronization to the power


grid
– Wicket gates (or Needles for Pelton style turbines)– Control water
flow to regulate speed and power output
– Governors – Provides feedback loop to control wicket gate position

• Peaker vs Base Load – Hydros are used for either


application due to amazing operational flexibility.
