HOW WAS IRON MADE?

• Iron ore is smelted to make iron.


• Some time after 1,550 BCE, techniques for
making iron were first developed in the
Middle East.
• Iron had much a higher melting point than
bronze, which meant it could not be poured
into a mold to form weapon tools, the iron
was heated and until it glowed and then
hammered into the new object's shape.

cooking pots, horse harnesses, and
nails.
