APRIL 24
Solve the ff problems:
PROB 1
DATA: Use single insulated conductors, rated 0 through 2000 volts, in
nonmagnetic Underground electrical ducts (one conductor per electrical duct),
based on ambient Earth temperature of 20 degrees C, electrical duct arrangement
per Figure B-310.15(B)(2)(2) Conductor Temperature 75 Degrees C

CABLE TO BE USED– Copper conductor, USE (Underground Service Entrance Cable), in 3 electrical
ducts
LOAD CURRENT= 365 A, Supplied from a source of 460 volts, 3phase, 60 Hz..
ACTUAL AMBIENT TEMP= 27 DEG CELSIUS, LF=50, (THERMAL RESISTANCE) RHO= 60
CONSIDER 80% of the conductor ampacity shall be the maximum limit.
Determine:
1. The minimum economical conductor size appropriate for this load considering
the given conditions above
PROB 2
If Load Factor = 85 , RHO = 80 in example 3, find out if the same
cable size will satisfy the condition. Load current=365A
Show your computation. Use the family of curves (graph)for
interpolation or extrapolation for values of rho and LF.

Show a sketch how you get the values graphically (Refer to the next slide)
