STORY HIGHLIGHTS

 With support from the World Bank, Bangladesh is


improving trade facilitation with a recently
launched trade portal aimed at boosting growth
and investments.
 The Bangladesh trade portal makes it easier and
less costly for businesses to import and export
goods.
 With the launch of the trade portal, Bangladesh is
moving towards full compliance with a new WTO
agreement that asks countries to promptly publish
trade-related information in an easily accessible
and transparent manner.
Rational view of BTP
 The Bangladesh Trade Portal will make it easier for
traders and investors to comply with regulatory
requirements associated with the importation and
exportation of goods as well as help Bangladesh comply
with the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Bali
Agreement on Trade Facilitation. The Agreement calls for
countries to tackle barriers and liberalize trade.
 the portal will help to encourage overseas investors that
are interested in trading with Bangladesh and provide
them with market and regulatory information to help
them export to and import from the country.
Features
 “The trade portal is a one-stop point of
information, which will improve transparency
and accountability,” said Ashish Narain, the
World Bank Group’s head of the South Asia
Regional Integration for Trade and Investment
team. 
 Primarily, 178 legal documents, 35 forms, 31
procedures and some measures of the
government have been uploaded on the portal
that are all open to the viewers.

 News -The latest news items are displayed on the Home
page. You can see a full list of news items by clicking on
More >> or by clicking on the News option on the Side
Menu
 Announcements - The latest announcements are
displayed on the Home page. We can see a full list of
announcements by clicking on More >> or by clicking on
the Announcements option on the Side Menu
 Publications - The Publications Page allows us to look
for on-line publications (e.g. newsletters, bulletins,
brochures, etc.). Here have the option of searching for
specific publications by keyword, by category and by
range of dates.
BTP- Services
 Languages - There is an English and a Bengali
version of the Trade Portal.
 Searching for information in the entire Trade
Portal - A search facility (Search this site) is
available from every page of the web portal on the
Side Menu. i.e info about Tariff Structure of
Bangladesh, Product wise exporter database, WTO
Agreement. Border Trade, Travelers Information.
 Searching for legal, SROs documents -The
website contains a full catalogue of all the legal
texts relevant to trade. These could be laws, legal
papers, SROs, Export & Import Statistics,
regulations or other instruments that carry the force
of law.
BTP- Services
• Searching for Commodity related information - The
website contains the full Harmonized Code (HS) classification
of commodities used in Bangladesh. By using the
Commodity Search facility in the Side Menu, We can look up
the tariff/s applicable to each commodity, any specific
measures applicable to that commodity (e.g. SPS, Technical
Standards) and what special procedure, if any, is required to
import or export that commodity.
• Searching for Procedures & Guidance - If We want to
find out what procedures are applicable in order to discharge
various legal obligations in relation to trade, We can use the
search facility by clicking on the Procedures option on the
Side Menu. Also we may guided on How to Export/Import,
GSP Facilities, Know cash incentives for Exporter etc.
BTP- Services
• Searching for Forms - To find out in what procedures or
for what commodities a specific form is used for, On this
page We have the option of searching for specific forms by
keyword, by category (e.g. import, export, etc.), by agency
responsible for issuing or processing the form or by range
of dates of validity of the form.
• Searching for Measures, Standards, Requirements -
A measure is a prohibition, restriction or special
requirement applicable to the import or export of certain
commodities. Typically, these will be related to
sanitary/Phytosanitary requirements (covered by the WTO
SPS Agreement) or requirements to conform to certain
technical standards (covered by the WTO TBT Agreement).
Strength
 Searching for information in the entire Trade Portal- A
search facility (Search this site) is available from every
page of the web portal on the Side Menu. We can type any
key word, part word or combination of words to search the
entire contents of this web portal.
 Operable both in Bangla and English
 Multiple search option include product search with HS code, SPS-TBT
Search points and search options for measures, standards and
special requirement.
 With thousands of links between its content elements, as well as
external links to relevant ministries and online services, BTP is not
only presents traders with comprehensive trade-related information,
but It also acts as a tool for the Government and other stakeholders
to help reduce, modernize and simplify regulations in accordance
with international best practice.
Weakness

 The Portal not linked with the FBCCI to


keep the portal updated.
 The portal not have 24 hour hotlines.
Opportunity

 The portal showcases wide variety of contents such as


overview of Bangladesh economy, business start up
process, import and export guide, custom's terminology,
as well as information special economic areas, export
processing zones, cross-border trade and GSP
automation.
 Bangladesh Trade Portal seeks to encourage overseas
investors that are interested to trade with Bangladesh
and provide them with market and regulatory
information to help them export to and import from
Bangladesh.
