SIGNS OF THE TIMES

MATTHEW 24:1-14
 WHAT ARE SIGNS FOR?

• Something material or external that stands

for or signifies something spiritual.
• No one knows the exact return of our Lord
Jesus Christ but we were given sure signs to
determine the nearness of His second
coming.
• ILL. Of a woman about to give birth. BIRTH
PANGS / PAINS
 I. SIGNS ARE INDICATIVE OF DIVINE JUDGMENT

• Wars, rumor of wars, earthquakes, famines and pestilences.

• Luk 21:9  And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified, for
these things must first take place, but the end will not be at once.”
• Jesus Foretells Wars and Persecution
• Luk 21:10  Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom
against kingdom.
• Luk 21:11  There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and
pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.
• Luk 21:25  “And there will be signs in sun and moon
and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in
perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the
waves,
• Luk 21:26  people fainting with fear and with
foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the
powers of the heavens will be shaken.
• Joe 2:30  “And I will show wonders in the heavens and
on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke.
• Joe 2:31  The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the
moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of
the LORD comes.
 II. SIGNS ARE INDICATIVE OF OPPOSITON TO GOD

• TRIBULATION, APOSTASY, ANTI-CHRIST

Mat 5:10  “Blessed are those who are persecuted for
righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:11  “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute
you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
Mat 5:12  Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven,
for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Joh 15:18  “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me
before it hated you.
Joh 15:19  If you were of the world, the world would love you as
its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out
of the world, therefore the world hates you.
Joh 15:20  Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is
not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also
persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
Joh 15:21  But all these things they will do to you on account of
my name, because they do not know him who sent me.
• Mat 24:9  “Then they will deliver you up to
tribulation and put you to death, and you will
be hated by all nations for my name's sake.
• Mat 24:10  And then many will fall away and
betray one another and hate one another.
• Joh 16:33  I have said these things to you, that in me you
may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But
take heart; I have overcome the world.”

• 2Ti 3:12  Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in

Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
• Mat 24:15  “So when you see the abomination of
desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel,
standing in the holy place (let the reader
understand),
 III. EVIDENCING THE GRACE OF GOD
Mat 24:14  And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the
whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come

THE GREAT COMMISSION

Mat 28:18  And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on
earth has been given to me.
Mat 28:19  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Mat 28:20  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And
behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
 CONCLUSION
2Pe 3:9  The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some
count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that
any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
2Pe 3:10  But the day of the Lord will come like a thief,
and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the
heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the
earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
2Pe 3:11  Since all these things are thus to be dissolved,
what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness
and godliness,
2Pe 3:12  waiting for and hastening the coming of the
day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on
fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as
they burn!
2Pe 3:13  But according to his promise we are waiting for
new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness
dwells.
