GEIL-VID TEST

■ The Geil-vid test, which consists of three simple

questions, is a test made to prove if a movie is
inclusive with Afro-descendant people or not.

■ Many movies promotes the equal rights for all

members of society, but there are some films that
show discrimination towards people who have a
different skin color, different beliefs, etc.

■ With this test, you will know if a movie you are

watching promotes inclusion and equality or if it
encourages spectators to exclude and segregate
people of a different color.
■ These are the questions of the Geil-vid test:

1. Is there any Afro-descendant character in the movie?

2. Is he or she a main character? or does he or she have an

important role in the movie?

3. Is this person discriminated by other character of the film?

■ If all the answers were positive, we can asume that
the movie doesn’t promote inclusion and, maybe, it
has some scenes that are not for kids whose minds
are very impressionable.

■ In case none of the answers or just the first two

were positive, we can say that the movie doesn’t
discriminate Afro-descendant culture and it is
inclusive.
Now some examples
The longest yard

The longest yard is a 2005 comedy film that tells the story of Paul
Crewe, a former NFL player who goes to jail.

In the prison where he was taken, he was forced to form and be the
quarterback of a football team.

Paul Crewe, who is played by Adam Sandler, was accused of shaving

points in an important game, although it was never proven. This is
why many prisoners are mad at him and don’t want to be or sit close
to where he is.
Almost all prisoners are black, and many of them
have an important role in the movie, like caretaker
who is Afro-descendant and whose best friend in jail is

All the guard are white men and they discriminate the
prisoner for their color.
