OUR TOPIC:
The topic we selected for assignment is SURGICAL INTRUMENTS EXPORTS BY
PAKISTAN TO UNITED STATES.
Justification of our topic:
In 19th century The American Mission hospital in Sialkot for the first time got its scalpels and other
instruments repaired from the local artisan community of blacksmiths.

Sialkot surgical industry started exporting surgical instruments to the foreign market in 1930s.

Pakistan‟s total export in this sector stands at US $ 235 million(reported by T-DAP).

The sector comprises of over 2300 companies, of which around 30 can be considered large and
the remainder can be split as 150 units of medium size and remaining as small.

This sector contributes 0.42% to the national GDP.

Pakistan, 300,000 to 400,000 labor force is engaged with this sector directly or indirectly.
Why we export to U.S?
Currently, Pakistan is capturing only 0.75 percent of the total world market of surgical instruments.
Most of the major export destinations of Pakistan are in Europe and USA.
