A. Meaning

- MBA Business Project, as it is meant for an MBA student, will be


pursued by him/her under a supervisor assigned by the Department. In
such a business project the student will be exposed to a firm
environment to know its problems both overall and in different
functional areas to recommend potential solutions like a consultant.
B. Process Flow

– The student will choose a firm under an industry based in Chittagong as


his/her MBA business project organization. In choosing the firm he/she must
have discussion with his/her supervisor. For example; Pragati Industries
Limited under BSEC is an automobile assembler under Automobile Industry.
– Preferably the firm to be chosen is a big manufacturing company based in
Chittagong with an age of minimum 10 years.
– The student cannot choose a firm/company already used for Strategy Audit
in his/her MBA First Semester.
– Title of the project paper is “Company Analysis and Improvement Guideline of
ABC Limited”
B. Process Flow

– In pursuing the analysis, each student gives an overview of the company he/she
selected, history or background information sourcing from annual report and
web site. And, to complete the overview the student needs to collect required
information from the company visiting personally.
– An industry analysis report using Michael porter’s Five Forces Model is shown
to understand nature of competition of the industry to which the company
belongs. An explanation of the industry competition has to be given using this
analysis and other relevant information
– Bangladesh economic analysis report is being given using macro economic
variables such as GDP over 5 years, GDP growth, inflation, savings, employment,
sectoral contribution, current account and so on.
B. Process Flow

– The student prepares an analysis of the company from the perceptive of; external
environmental analysis (PESTLE Analysis or more), Product Life Cycle (PLC), VIRO
Framework, Value Chain, BCG Matrix, Balanced Score card and Ratio Analysis.
– The student identifies problems of the company both overall and in different
functional areas such as; operations, finance, marketing, HRM, MIS and R&D. In
such identification the student needs to highlight relevant information such as
cash flows, production records, expenses and other performance measures.
– The student prepares a detail report to recommend the solutions of the problems
identified. He/she shows future performance based on the recommended solutions;
such as; cash flow, operational efficiency and other bottom line improvements.
B. Process Flow

– Business Project Period (Length) : It would be an attachment of 12


weeks length in total from assignment to report submission.

– Progress Report : During the project completion the student needs


to be in touch with the supervisor regarding the work progress and
necessary guidelines.
C. Format of the Business Project Report

– 1. Table of Contents
– 2. Preface /Prelude: Importance of the project report to the degree requirement.
– 2. Introduction – Objective of the business project and overview of the company.
– 3. Background of the company – Historical background and basics in the progress.
– 4. Bangladesh Economic Analysis over 5 years. Relevance to the industry performance.
– 5. Industry information and analysis.
– 6. Analysis of the company from the perspective of external environmental analysis
(PESTLE or more), BCG Matrix, PLC, Balanced Score Card and so on.
C. Format of the Project Report

– 7. Identification of problematic areas – Operations, Finance,


Marketing, MIS, R&D, HRM and so on.
– 8. Projection of company’s next five years sales and cash flow – use a
statistical package which is convenient to you (student).
– 9. Problem solutions – Balanced score card approach, Enterprise
resource planning, Business Intelligence, Business Analytics,
Management Simulation, etc.
– 10. Recommendation & Conclusion
– 11. Reference (In text and end) /Appendix.
D. Evaluation

Criteria Score

Project Paper Format/Organization: The student abides by the required structure or format Max 5

Contents of optional sections are relevant and accurate, e. g. Max 5


Title or Cover Page, Abstract, Executive Summary, Acknowledgement, Table of Contents, List of
Figures/Tables/Illustrations/Abbreviations, References/Bibliography.

Company Background Information: Items of information given are relevant and accurate, e. g. : History, MAX 10
vision, mission, corporate logo, legal status, etc. Description of business activities. Description of
products and services.
 Industry Analysis: Overview of the Industry, Competitiveness analysis using Michael Porter’s Five forces.  Max 15

 Economic Analysis of Bangladesh :  Max 15

 External Environmental Analysis:  Max 15

 Firm or company analysis:  Max 15

 Problem Identification & Solution recommendation:  Max 10

 Grammar/ Spelling/ Writing Convention/ Vocabulary: The student abides by the writing style given or  Max 10
asked for, sentences are well structured, content is well organized and coherent and minimal misspelling,
and grammatical error.
