Modeling
Energy Modeler works on the
architectural layout design and
conducts whole building energy and
day light simulations to

predict annual energy consumption

suggest modifications for optimizing

energy performance
Energy Modeling Tools
TRACE 700 helps you compare the
energy and economic impact of
building-related selections such as
architectural features, HVAC systems,
HVAC equipment, building utilization
or scheduling, and financial options.
DesignBuilder v5.4 adds a substantial set of new
features and improvements including :
 significant productivity improvements for LEED
and ASHRAE 90.1 PRM work,
 Climate Based Daylight Modelling,
 graphical output of simulation results rendered
on the model and
 a new Scripting toolset to allow EnergyPlus
simulations to be customised.

Other highlights include Combined Heat and Moisture

Energy Audit for Existing
Buildings and Factories
According to the definition in the ISO
50002 standard,
“an energy audit is a systematic analysis
of energy use and energy consumption
within a defined energy audit scope, in
order to identify, quantify and report on
the opportunities for improved energy
performance”.

Three types of energy audit:

Commonly used Energy Auditing
Tools
Thermal imaging camera
Lux meter
Power analyzer
Combustion analyzer
Digital camera
Flow rate meter
Clamp Ampmeter
Thermometer
Humidity meter

Energy Audit for AUST
A rough estimate by the students
showed that AUST can save money if
some small measures are taken.

Savings by installing LED bulbs = Tk.

64,431/month; Payback in 16 months

Savings by installing auto-door closers = Tk.

1,69,950/month; Payback in 2 months

Yearly energy use at AUST is

72,32,126 kWh

Career Opportunities

 LEED AP is a Globally Accepted Accreditation

 Worldwide Career Opportunity
 Booming Middle Eastern market
(specifically UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar)
 Growing South Asian market

 Apart from New Constructions in Bangladesh,

Existing buildings are also coming up for
retrofitting
Career Opportunities

Just Google and search for “Green Building

Jobs”,
“Careers in Green Building” and so on, you
will be flooded with hundreds of returns.

You can be an Architect. Landscape Designer,

Contractor, Consultant, Supplier, Mechanical,
Electrical, Plumbing, Civil Engineer, Solar PV
Installer, Construction and Building
Inspector, Auditor any many more….
Career Opportunities

Green Building movement is in its infancy in

Bangladesh. But it has taken off.

With the import of LNG in the next few

months, the prices for gas and other
conventional fuels will go up.

This would trigger the Energy Auditing

market for the existing buildings and Energy
Simulation market for the new
constructions.
LEED Credentials

 LEED Green Associate

 LEED Accredited Professional (LEED

AP)
(earns 1 credit point)
 LEED Fellow
LEED Green Associate

The LEED Green Associate designation

is the first step in a LEED professional’s
journey.

For professionals who want to

demonstrate green building expertise in
non-technical fields of practice, GBCI has
created the LEED Green
Associate credential.

However, they generally upgrade to

LEED AP with Specialty

All LEED APs with Specialty are required to pass the

LEED Green Associate exam before anything else.
There are five specialties available:
Building Design + Construction
Operations + Maintenance
Interior Design + Construction
Neighborhood Development
Homes
LEED AP with Specialty

LEED AP with Specialty credential holders

possess a deep understanding of all the
details, prerequisites, credits,
definitions, and rules of a particular
specialty track within the LEED green
building rating system.

In recent years, green building design has emerged
as a top priority in the Middle East and North
Africa.

The number of LEED-registered buildings has

increased rapidly across the Middle East, from 623
in 2010 to more than 1400 in 2015.

United Arab Emirates is leading the pack with

almost two-third share, followed by Qatar, Saudi
Arabia and Egypt.

ulf News June 20, 2013  Report by Cleofe Maceda

There are about 1,200 green buildings in Middle

East and North Africa that have a Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
accreditation.
Of these buildings, 65 per cent (802) are located in
the UAE. Qatar is ranked second on the list, with
173 green buildings, followed by Saudi Arabia
(145), Lebanon (25) and Egypt (22).

Jones Lang LaSalle’s report concluded that while

there has been a greater push for more sustainable
buildings and communities in the region,
sustainability is
“still in its infancy” in the Middle East.
