Generation of Networks !!

Two-objectives:-
Universal Personal Communication:

It means, user has the provision to communicate with any network for his
services in an area, region, country or globally

Universal Communication Access:

It means any terminal/device is able to connect to any network in an

environment and works in offices, streets, vehicle or in an airplane .
In GSM systems, the SIM was first-step to achieve the above two goals and so the two
general terms evolved: PCNetworks and PCServices

Air-Interface: Set of radio-interfaces, to improve and optimize the performance
of radio network.. Five Interfaces
Multiple Access allows more than two devices/users connected to the same
transmission medium to transmit over it and to share its capacity

Air-Interface:
The interfaces evolved from 2/2.5 GSM/GSM-E/EDGE etc.

WCDMA-Wideband CDMA as UMTS (Europe’s 3G Wireless technology OR

standard). Uses CDMA’s full capabilities to provide high data rates

IMT-TC or TD-CDMA as UMTS (Europe’s 3G Wireless technology OR standard). It

uses combination of WCDMA and TDMA schemes to provide high data rates. It was
basically Upgraded-TDMA based GSM

(The above two technologies are CDMA based)

Air-Interface: cont’d
The interfaces evolved from 2/2.5 GSM/GSM-E/EDGE etc.

CDMA2000 or IMT-MC as North American’s 3G Wireless technology OR standard). It uses

multiple-carriers and uses Chip-rates (3MCPS) different to those used in WCDMA (3.84 MCPS)

IMT-SC or TDD as UMTS (3G Wireless technology OR standard). It is basically TDMA-based,

however, it can be used for FDMA carriers as well to provide more services in 3G networks

IMT-FT (Freq Time) as UMTS (3G Wireless technology OR standard). It is basically an outgrowth
of DECT+, to provide 3G services
