quite open, and the lips slightly
spread.

rather flat, and centered (farther
back than for [æ]) . The jaws
should be fully open and lips
relaxed.

To make [ɔ] with the tongue low, pulled


back, and higher in back than in front.
The jaws should be quite open, and the
lips slightly rounded. Do not glide the
tongue or round the lips further while
voicing the vowel.
Make [a] with the tongue low, centered,
and rather flat. The jaws should be fully
open, and the lips relaxed.
The Vowels [^/u]

[^] luck
To make [^] with the tongue curved

high in the back , the jaws slightly open,
and the lips rounded. Do not glide the
tongue or round the lips further while

Both [^] and [u] are short sounds.

Make [ər] with the tip of the tongue
curled back in [r] positions, the jaws
slightly open, and the lips slightly
rounded.
To make [or], start with the tongue
curved halfway up in back, the jaws half
open, and the lips rounded. Curl the tip
of the tongue back to [r] position while
voicing the vowel.
