Rhesus (Rh) Factor
• Rhesus factor is a type of protein found on the
red blood cells
• If a person has this protein on the red blood
cell, they are Rhesus positive Rh+
• If the person does not have the Rhesus factor
…on red blood cells…Rhesus negative, Rh-
Antigens/Antibodies
• Antigens are present on the surface of red
blood cells and
• Antibodies are found in blood plasma
• If the antigens on the red blood cells are the
same as antibodies in the plasma the cells
would clump together because of
agglutination
