proposal

What is A project ?
A temporary endeavour with planned set of
interrelated tasks to be executed over a specific
period, that is, “a beginning and an end”, and
within certain cost and other limitations. It consists
of a concrete and organized effort motivated by a
perceived opportunity when facing a problem, a
need, a desire or a source of discomfort for
example, lack of proper health services, food
insecurity, Etc. It seeks the realization of a unique
and innovative deliverable, such as a product, a
service, a process, or in some cases, a scientific
research.
What is A project proposal is a document designed to
present a plan of action, outlining the reasons why the
action is necessary, & convince the reader/funder to
approve the implementation of the actions recommended
in the body of the document. It is a type of business
proposal that outlines the objective of a proposed endeavor
together with the steps necessary to accomplish the
objective, identifying an objective & tactics to accomplish
the goal, a project proposal sets forth the benefits of
pursuing the endeavor. It contains milestones at which
certain aspects of the project are to be completed; a list of
the key participants in the endeavor, together with a
summary of relevant biographical data. Core about a
project proposal is a detailed budget that includes a total of
anticipated costs & a time frame for specific expenditure.
Project proposal as a marketing
document
A project proposal is also the marketing
document that initiates a relationship
between an organization & outside
project stakeholders. Generating a
proposal allows an organization to
establish a formal, logical presentation to
an outside worker or project donor.
The need for a proposal
1. A proposal is required to get executive buy-
in for a new project, program, or service at
your organization.
2. Furthermore it is used to get everyone on
the team get committed to same goals and
priorities.
3. Very important too, it guides the
organization to know when they need to
make new hiring decisions & budget
adjustments.

Types of project proposals

1. Formally Solicited Project Proposals:

Solicited project proposals are
established in response to an official
request for a new proposal. Here, a
Request for Proposal (RFP) is used to
outline client demands & specific needs.
A solicited proposal is the structured and
specific response to said RFP. Having an
RFP makes the entire proposal process
simple.
2. Informally Solicited Project Proposals

An informally solicited proposal does

not require an RFP. Informal
proposals do not have project details,
such as goals, deliverables, and
methods. It is informally solicited
project proposal can be understood
as a proposal request without
particulars.
3. Unsolicited Project Proposals

Unsolicited project proposals are not asked for,

however, if the audience finds it feasible, they my
relate to its importance. Unsolicited proposals are
typically formed from more ad-hoc activities, “aha”
moments or an informative conversation with
customers. Unsolicited proposals can be the most
difficult types to write, as you will have to put extra
work in to convince the audience of the project’s
viability. Many times, these proposals require the
most research and the most skill, as the audience is
oblivious that the proposal is even coming to them.
4. Continuation project proposals

These are essentially an update or

reminder for ongoing and already
approved projects. They are a check-
in with the audience to ensure the
correct funds are provided for the
next phase, as well as discussing
progress and accounting for any
changes before moving forward.
5. Renewal Project Proposals

This is a project proposal written when an

ongoing project has been terminated or
the resources and support behind such
project can no longer be used. This
proposal is more about proving that the
return on investment is greater than the
money being spent on resources so that
the project can re-start.
6. Supplemental Project Proposals

These project proposals are required when

more resources are required to complete a
project than were initially proposed. The main
goal of a supplemental proposal is to prove
the value of adding resources and update the
audience with a timeline based on this new
plan. Quite often, supplemental proposals are
written when the original project scope has
grown beyond initial expectations. They are a
continuation of the original project proposal
document.
