It has been determined that the
inadequate infrastructure is one
major obstacle to carry out
commercial activities in Guatemala
and that has slowed foreign
investment.

Greater investment in infrastructure


in Guatemala, would have a higher
profitability both in terms of growth
and in the reduction of poverty and
income inequality. The improvement
of land transport networks would
facilitate regional trade and internal
transportation, which would
increase the supply of goods and
decrease the prices. Better access to
infrastructure services in rural areas,
where most of the poor households,
would have a substantial positive
impact on the level of life.
The WEF (World Economic Forum)
carries out the Global Competitiveness
Index, which is a tool developed with
the intention of being used to identify
and compare the capacity to provide
economic development opportunities to
the citizens of the countries analyzed.
The most recent evaluation corresponds
to the 2017-2018 report, in which
Guatemala ranked 84th out of 137
countries evaluated.

This evaluation is divided into 3 main


categories: Basic requirements,
efficiency enhancers, and innovation
and sophistication factors.

category of basic requirements where
Guatemala obtained 4.3 of 7
CONCLUSIONS

• Currently, Guatemala has a deficient infrastructure that has


negative impact on the economy of the country.

• The bad management of the funds has been causing issues


in the infrastructure built in Guatemala, for example
“Libramiento de Chimaltenango”

• t is proved that an efficient management of the funds for


infrastructure can improve the quality of life of the
inhabitants and the economy of a country.
