Stress…
Stress defined
 Stress is the behavioral adjustment to change
that affects you psychologically and
physically.
 How well we cope with change and
challenges.
 Stress results in a variety of ways.
 Most common is from our minds.
Fight or Flight Syndrome
 A means of dealing/coping with threats for
survival.
 Occurs when we are faced with threatening
situations and occurs unexpectedly.
 Physiologically affects our brain
Major Causes of Stress
 Workplace stress is the greatest health
problem of working adults.
 45% of employee turnover can be attributed
to workplace stress.
 Increases job burnout at an alarming rate.
 Commute time

 Daily routines and assignments.

 New teams and new focus

 Fear of layoffs.
Major Causes of Stress
Technostress is the inability to cope with
computer and related technologies in a
healthy manner.
 Upgrading Technology
 Fear of technology.
 Information nightmare (email, PowerPoint,
Excel, OEM programs/applications).
Managing Your Stress

Burnout
 Burnout is the feeling of being emotionally
drained, worked over, and shaken to a state
of utter mush.
Symptoms include, but are not limited to:
 Avoidance of people
 Desensitized
 Increased negativity
 Loss of motivation
 Increased personal problems
Steps to avoid Burnout
 You can only control the controllables.
 Let things go
 Stay organized and focus on the priorities.
 Live well , you only have one shot at it.

your results mean and how you can lower or
