Stress defined
Stress is the behavioral adjustment to change
that affects you psychologically and
physically.
How well we cope with change and
challenges.
Stress results in a variety of ways.
Most common is from our minds.
Fight or Flight Syndrome
A means of dealing/coping with threats for
survival.
Occurs when we are faced with threatening
situations and occurs unexpectedly.
Physiologically affects our brain
Major Causes of Stress
Workplace stress is the greatest health
problem of working adults.
45% of employee turnover can be attributed
to workplace stress.
Increases job burnout at an alarming rate.
Commute time

Daily routines and assignments.
Fear of layoffs.

Technostress is the inability to cope with
computer and related technologies in a
healthy manner.
Upgrading Technology
Fear of technology.
Information nightmare (email, PowerPoint,
Excel, OEM programs/applications).

Burnout
Burnout is the feeling of being emotionally
drained, worked over, and shaken to a state
of utter mush.
Symptoms include, but are not limited to:
Avoidance of people
Desensitized
Increased negativity
Loss of motivation
Increased personal problems
Steps to avoid Burnout
You can only control the controllables.
Let things go
Stay organized and focus on the priorities.
