CRYPTORCHIDISM

Definition

■ Derived from the Greek, kryptos meaning hidden and


orchis meaning testicles
 the absence of one or both the testes from
the scrotum
■ Common conditions affecting 3% of full-term infants
and 30% of premature infant boys
cryptorchidism
Retractile testis:
Normally descended testis that retracts into the inguinal
canal as a result of cremasteric contraction
Etiology

■ In most full-term infant boys, the cause cannot be found


■ Several factors may increase the risk of cryptorchidism:
– Prematurity
– Low birth weight
– Diabetes and obesity in the mother
– Regular alcohol consumption during pregnancy
– Cigarette smoking
– Family history
– Parents’ exposure to some pesticides
– Higher rate in those with Down syndrome, Pradar-Willi syndrome

Diagnosis

ANAMNESIS
1. Keluhan utama: testis belum turun ke skrotum
2. Riwayat perinatal : prematuritas

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
3. General examination
4. The patient is supine, squatting or in a frog position  testis palpable in inguinal
region (PALPABLE TYPES)
IMAGING EXAMINATION

USG
FURTHER EXAMINATION

- Karyotiping : to confirm or exclude forms of dysgenetic primary hypogonadism


(Klinefelter syndrome)
- Hormone levels (gonadotropin and AMH) : to confirm hormonally functional testes
- Stimulation with Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG): to elicit a rise of testosterone
level
