INTRODUCTION
WHY ENERGY SHORTAGE
 Energy shortage can be considered as the inability to eliminate the
demand supply gap or an inability to meet up the energy requirement.
This inability has very serious consequences ranging from protests to halt
in economic development.
 If the sector is not managed properly in the near future Pakistan will be left
behind in the economic race.
 Energy Crisis also effect the daily life of citizens, often the protests are held,
which turn out to be violent and cause huge loss to the economy of our country.
 This paper is intended to reveal those major flaws and problems which are
responsible for the downfall of this sector.
GAP IN THE BODY OF KNOWLEDGE
 {Afia Malik (2012)} examined the situation in Pakistan. She found that the
crisis of power was primarily due to internal government crises. She also
observed that mismanagement contributed a lot to this crises.
 According to (Malik, n.d.) bad decisions, policies and a serious failure to
take the necessary decisions and the timely implementation of those
decisions caused this crises
 Most of researches done, had broadly discussed the factors responsible for
the energy crises and they concluded the research using only the
secondary data i.e. from news articles, journals, already published or
broadcasted interviews of people related to this issue and through existing
researches.
 This research used the Primary data and did a survey to find that how
much these different variable/factors proposed by other researchers
contributed toward the energy
GAP IN THE BODY OF KNOWLEDGE
 The present study explores the relationship of Resource Mismanagement,
Poor Infrastructure, Poor Governance, Lack of new Energy Resources and
power theft with Energy Shortage in Punjab Province of Pakistan
LITERATURE REVIEW
 Energy shortage can be considered as the inability to eliminate the demand
supply gap or an inability to meet up the energy requirement. This inability
has very serious consequences ranging from protests to halt in economic
development
 The ongoing energy shortage is attributed to a lack of predictability, bad
planning, weak decision-making, and a lack of urgency in coping with the
issue on behalf of the government. Without the strong commitment of the
government, the problem can not be resolved. (Shakeel et al., 2016)
 The power crisis in Pakistan can be significantly reduced by improving
infrastructure and improving the management problems of the power
distribution hierarchy.(Maaz Mufti et al., 2016)
 There are many causes for a shortage of electricity in Pakistan such as poor
planning, lack of accountability, poor distribution and a rapid increase in
electricity supply in rural as well as urban Pakistan regions. (Lodhi & Malik,
2013)
