Introduction
 Control is the act of making process variables and operational
sequences behave in a particular way or follow desired patterns of
variations.
 the main function of a control system is to make sure outputs follow
setpoints
Types of control systems
 closed loop control systems
 sequencing systems
Closed loop control systems
 In closed loop control systems a particular process variable is
required to maintain a set a point
 Basically consists of a sensor, a controller and an actuator in a
negative feedback configuration.
Sequencing systems
 In sequencing systems, a machine is required to follow a sequence of
steps whilst production is taking place.
 Consists of a number of sensors, a controller and a number of actuators.
 The actuator state depend on the sensor state as well as the sequence
that the controller is designed to follow
 A step may be a closed loop control process.
