How to Write the

Research Title

“Brainstorming Activity”
Analyze the following research titles and determine their common
characteristics. From your analysis, determine the common elements of
a good research title and the steps in formulating it.
Research titles:
1. Level of Difficulty and the Practical Research Outputs Among Senior

2. Correlates of the Financial Literacy Profile and Work Performance
Among Elementary Teachers
3. Attributes of Test Papers and Level of Performance of Students:
Basis for the Formulation of the Guidelines on Test Paper

among Junior High School Students
Generally, the title should:
 Summarize the main idea of the paper;
 Be a concise statement of the main topic;
 Omit phrases and words like:
1. A Study of...
2. A Comparative Study of ..
3. An Assessment of...
4. An Analysis of...
5. Investigation...
 Include major variable/s
 Show the relationship of the main variables of the study
 Mention the respondents/participants (in a general manner) and the setting.
Thus, instead of writing “Grade 5 Pupils of Dr. Cristobal Elementary School,
write “Elementary Pupils” or “selected elementary schools”
 The title must have 10 to 15 words.

Sources of Research Problems
1. Perceived difficulties in the management and leadership of the
school head or teachers
2. A gap between theory and practice
3. A daily experience of a classroom teacher that requires further
inquiry especially if improvements are desired;
4. A pattern or trend. Ex. A student failing in a lesson in algebra,
increasing tardiness in English class or misbehavior during class
hours
5. A literature review. An article read from the internet or in library
that can be a source of an interesting issue, or possible conflicts,
replication study is allowed when parts of a previous study are to
be enhanced or elements will be added like other variables, new
locale, different participants etc.
Considerations in formulating research
problems

Statement of the Problem
The following are examples of a general problem:
1. The main problem of this research is to look into the influence of video games and the
utilization of social media on the language proficiency of the freshmen students of Leyte
National High School for the first semester of academic year 2014-2015. The result of this
investigation will be the basis of the formulation of the guidelines in the development,
organization, and implementation of effective study habits.
2. This study aims to assess the behavioral traits of senior high school students and to relate
them to the productivity level in reviewing lessons and passing the long examinations.
3. This investigation aims to assess the level of performance of technical-vocational
instructors and relate it to efficiency level of senior high school management students
undergoing on-the-job training in selected businesses in Palo, Leyte during the school
year 2019-2020
4. The general problem of this study is to determine the relationship of the intrapersonal
and interpersonal competencies of school managers which will become the basis of a
human relation intervention program.
The general problem is followed by an enumeration of the specific
problems.
 2 types of questions formulated in research
1. Non-researchable questions- answerable by “yes” or “no”
Ex.
1. Will the students from a broken family prove their worth in the community?
2. Should all mothers breastfeed their babies?
3. Should master teachers be watchful over their new students?
4. Do all high school teachers have a Master’s degree?
2. Researchable questions-questions of value, opinions, or policy raised to
gather data
 The basic form of a research question involves the use of question words
such as who, what, where, when, why, and how.
Types of research questions
 Factor-Isolating Questions. They isolate, categorize, describe, or name factors and
situations.
 Examples
1. How may the profile of the school managers be described in terms of:

1.2 management experience
a. Educational attainment
b. Management training
c. Work values
d. Etc...
2. How may the level of description of the study habits of senior high school students
be described in terms of:
2.1 review time
2.2 place of review; and
2.3 techniques in studying

Factor-related questions. Questions that determines the relationship among
factors that have been identified.

the family and the social status of the junior students?

a. Interpersonal competency;

Situation-relating questions. Hypothesis
testing or experimental study designs
1. What are the effects of the traditional methods of
teaching on the level of performance of the ABM students?
2. How does the management procedures applied by the
store managers affect the level of customer satisfaction as
experienced by selected regular clients of Jollibee stores
in the Province of Leyte?
 Situation-producing questions. These questions establish explicit goals for
actions, develop plans or prescriptions to achieve goals and specify the
conditions under which these goals will be accomplished.
1. Based on the findings of the study, what human relation intervention
program can be adopted to enhance or improve school effectiveness?
2. What policy is to be formulated to manage the effectiveness involvement
of high school students in social media?
3. What part of the curriculum should be enhanced or improved to prepare
the senior high school students for the workplace?
4. What faculty development activities could be developed based on the
results of the study?
Environmental Awareness and Attitude of Senior High School:
Basis for Environmental Enrichment Curriculum
Generally the study aims to assess the environmental awareness and attitude of the senior
high school students during the school year 2019-2020.
Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:
1. What is the level of environmental awareness of the students based on the Science learning
competencies in Grades 7-10 of the K to 12 Curriculum?
2. What are the accrued least learned competencies of the students according to the test analysis
results?
3. What is the level of attitude of the students towards the environment?
4. Is there a significant relationship between the level of environmental awareness and the attitude of the
respondents?
5. What are the views of the participants to strengthen their environmental awareness?
6. What environmental education enrichment curriculum in teaching Grades 7-10 Science can be
proposed based on the findings of the study?
