OBJECTIVES:
Give some importance of classroom management relative to learning
Define noise relative to the topic (working definition)
Enumerate the effects of students’ noise
Share strategies or personal experiences on how to manage students’ noise
What is noise?
Any sound that is undesired or interferes with one’s hearing of something (Merriam Webster)
A sound, especially one that is loud, unpleasant, or frightening (Longman Dictionary of Contemporary
English)

Disruption of discussion
Disturbance of other students
Misunderstanding of information
Inability to understand instruction or lesson
Minimal learning or no learning at all
What can you do?
1.
Stop talking and let them talk until they notice that you stopped talking
Ask them if they are done so that you can continue
2.
Approach the students slowly
In a very low voice, ask them what is going on
3.
Look at them in the eyes for a while
Stop only when they notice you
What can you do?
4.
Call his/her attention
Ask a question about the lesson particularly the one previously discussed or
ask him/her to share before the class whatever they are discussing
5.
Pose a question for everyone
Call the noisy ones to answer just to call their attention
6.
Ask the student to transfer preferably in front
What can you do?
7.
Assign task like erasing the writing on the board and the like
8.
Assign the students to list down the noisy ones
9.
Approach the group and ask what is going on and remind them to concentrate on their task at hand
