THE EFFECTS OF RIPE LATUNDAN BANANA (MUSA

SAPIENTUM L.) PEELINGS ON THE GROWTH OF RADISH

(RAPHANUS SATIVUS L.) PLANTS
ANGUS, ARAGON, CABABAROS, EDUAVE, LAGURA, MANGUBAT, SANTANDER, TAN. J
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Organic mulching is a safe, inexpensive, practical, and well-
known method of augmenting soil conditions. Radishes(Raphanus
sativus L.) and Bananas(Musa sapientum L.) are both popular,
common plants used in daily life. Radish grows quickly and is full
of uses. Banana peelings are plentiful and is one of the most
common organic fertilizer. The research gap is that banana
peelings haven’t been used as fertilizer yet for radishes. We
decided to use radish as they aren’t as sensitive as tomato.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The research aims to answer the following questions:
Do the peelings have a significant effect on the plant?
 Is there a difference in growth and/or weight of the radish with
or without peelings?

HYPOTHESIS
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
SCOPE AND LIMITATION
Soil analysis will be done with the help of experts. Factors like
the pot, watering, location, and soil will be controlled. The growth
period given is 2-3 months. Factors to be noted are purely
physical, other factors are excluded due to lack of expertise.

RESEARCH DESIGN AND SETTING
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Ripe latundan banana (Musa sapientum L.) peelings were
prepared thoroughly and applied separately on the soil in 15 pots
planted with 20 seeds in each. Out of the 15 pots, 3 pots of each
were used for each treatment, therefore having 5 treatments being
observed. The different treatments are as follows T1- 100% soil,
no Latundan Banana peelings; T2- 90% soil, 10% Latundan
Banana peelings; T3- 75% soil, 25% Latundan Banana peelings;
T4- 50% soil, 50% Latundan Banana peelings; T5- 25% soil, 75%
Latundan Banana peelings.
