Challenges for Nepal in OBOR initiative

OBOR initiative is a very important initiative for Nepal
beside this there are number of challenges which Nepal
has to go through for the successful completion of the
Initiative.
• Funding
• Exploitation of natural resources
• Dumping of cheap goods
• Employment opportunities
• Environment and social impacts
14
CONCLUSION

• The project seems very lucrative as the aim and

objectives seems very advantageous to all participating
country.
• The concerned authority must make a detail study about
the execution of project in Nepal and its probable
consequences.
• Also a keen study is required to exploit the initiative for
the extensive benefit of Nepal, without hampering a
relation with neighbors.
• Hence a balanced diplomacy, good understanding,
detailed study about the priority of the project and
proper execution of the projects is the current need for
Nepal to make this project fruitful to Nepal. 15
FINDINGS

• The current energy need of china, saturation of market,

decreasing economic growth rate, and regional
disparities are the major reasons behind china taking the
initiative.
• It can help Nepal to develop its infrastructure using the
Chinese aid and link with the other countries in OBOR.
• It will be beneficial in the making of job opportunity
• Failed project may drown the nation in non-payable debt.
Similarly, it increases Chinese influence in Nepal which
may result national security challenges.
16
RECOMMENDATIONS

• India the neighboring nation of Nepal is against this

OBOR initiative maintaining a balanced relationship
between china and India will be the biggest challenge
hence Nepal diplomatically must act as mediator for
bringing India to the common ground regarding the
initiative.
• The road and belt initiative by china is one of the greatest
projects in mankind. Hence the project must be
understood by all the participating nations and non-
participating nations and support china for the proper
completion of the project.
• Nepal must show balanced diplomacy between China
and India. 17
