FUNCTIONALISM
Objectives:

1. Define structural-functionalism.
2. Explain the important role of social
structure in maintaining a stable society.
Structural Functionalism
• It is a sociological theory that explains why
society functions the way it does by emphasizing
on the relationships between the various social
institutions that make up society.
Structural Functionalism
• It sees society as a complex system whose parts
work together to promote solidarity and stability.
It asserts that our lives are guided by social
structures, which are relatively stable patterns of
social behavior.
Structural Functionalism
• Society is viewed at the macro-level. It is
likened to the human body formed by
different interdependent parts with different
coordinated functions that are integrated
into a whole system.
