Cash Handling
► This product is broadly classified into two parts namely
• Senior Teller (Head Teller)
• Teller

► Each parts will have a separate function to be explained in the


forthcoming slides

► In T24, Teller product enriches the movement of funds across all


customers in different currencies
► Involves in the process of retail Transactions

► T24 maintains Teller wise cash through internal accounts

► Facilitates to issue Traveller's Cheques

► Availability of Local and Foreign currency exchange

► Vault
o It is the control point for cash holdings and is under the control of the Head
Teller only
o The Vault is where we store the cash reserve to support the teller operation

► Till is where cash is kept to be handled by the teller in a bank.

► Various operations like cash deposit, withdrawal, account transfer are to


be performed out of till assigned to a Teller

Teller – Operational cycle – in a nutshell

► To assign tills to teller by the head teller – opening of till

► Teller performs activities such as cash deposit and Withdrawal, currency


exchange, account transfer etc
► To transfer money from vault to till if required and also between tills

► Finally surplus cash is transfered to vault and close till

► Small change can be left with teller or fully transferred

► When closing a till, teller is required to enter currency wise cash amounts which
are checked against system balances. In case of any disrepancy, override is
generated and accepted.
► T24 posts the difference automatically to cash overage A/C – if in excess
• Shortage A/C – if there is a shortage.
• If the amount balance with the teller is negative (-$1000) implies that teller has
$1000

 Rules for each side are set separately

 They could be defined in any sequence, but System ensures that they are
always contra

 Teller can view the accounting entries passed through teller Transactions

 Verify signature before making payments

Creation of a new till – Mandatory details

► ID
 Till number will be a four digit number.
 9999 number is generally reserved for vault

► Status
 When a till is created it will be in “open” status
 During till closure the status will be “close”
 Valult status will be neither open nor close

► Teller
 The one to whom a till is assigned
 While creating a till, the teller’s ID should be mentioned
 Teller will be able to perform the operations only when the till status is open and he is
being assigned to that till
 A teller cannot be assigned to more than one till at any time.

Teller cash transactions – manadatory details - LCY

► ID
• Unique and auto generated in the format as TTYYDDDNNNNN

► Cash amount
• Amount deposited or withdrawn by the customer

• Since the transaction happens in local currency, currency Field will be a “no input” field.

► Account
• Credit or Debit account

• LCY accounts (USD) can be indicated here

► Cheque number – For withdrawals only

► Denomination for various currencies


• Denomination for actual receipt/payment should match with the amount

Traveller’s Cheque

► Handles both Issue and Payment of Cheques

► Also handles the receipt of TC stock from other banks, transfer from the
vault to till, and the actual issue of TC
► Since other banks TCs are not part of TC Stock, verification of Serial
Number is not possible

Traveller’s Cheque
► In T24, Travelers' cheques processing could happen under two situations.

• Where client is the issuer of travelers cheques

• Client who is not the issuer of Travellers cheque, but uses travellers cheques
issued by others
► Handling Travellers cheques is similar to handling operations of other internal
accounts.

Traveller’s Cheque

► In T24, Traveller's cheque can handle both

 Issue and Purchase of TCs

► T24 handle the receipt of TC stock from other banks, transfer from the
vault to till, and the actual issue of TC
► TCs issued by any bank can be purchased and there is no control for
serial numbers during purchase
► Specific category range is used for Issue and Purchase

Traveller’s Cheque

► Traveller's Cheques can be sold against cash or against debit to


Customer’s account in any currency
► Internal account for the Till for TC Stock to be used

► Generally, at the end of every day, or at agreed periodic intervals, funds


are remitted to the Traveller's Cheque Issuer for the sales effected

Traveller’s Cheque

► Traveller's Cheques of other issuers can be bought against cash or by


credit to Customer’s account in any currency
► Advisable to open Internal accounts for each Issuer to keep individual
issuer wise track of TCs bought
► Internal account for the Till for TC bought used
Till Transfer – Mandatory details

► During the day when the teller runs out of cash in his till, he can

• Transfer the money from vault or

• Transfer between two tills

► ID’s of the teller who transfers cash and the teller who receives cash are to be
specified
• If the transfer is from Vault, then Vault ID (9999) will be used

► Currency and amount to be mentioned

► This transaction has to be authorised by an Head Teller

The TFS transaction can be launched by either of the two below methods:
 As a drill-down from an Account enquiry, or
 Directly from the Menu

The Bank user should be first allotted a Till and a Teller Id

Status of Child Transactions

An authorised TFS transaction will give birth to self-authorised child transactions

A single-authoriser TFS transaction will have unauthorised child transaction

Errors and overrides raised by the child transactions will be present in the TFS
transaction as well

If TFS is in INAO status, child transaction will also be in INAU

If Consolidation is not enabled, then any individual TFS Leg can be reversed
independent of the other Legs

If Consolidation is enabled, then all TFS Legs need to be reversed

Any changes to the TFS transaction in unauthorised status will also be updated to
the child transactions

Transactions where both sides of the Transaction is the Bank

The Credit and Debit account numbers are defaulted based on the Transaction
currency of the TFS leg

Defaulting not possible if the child transaction is on FT or DC

TFS defaults the first account of the customer is defaulted as the Primary Account

In case Consolidation is:


 Enabled: The wash through account is defaulted to the Primary account
 Disabled: The customer account if supplied will be defaulted

To default the other side of the leg without showing both the Debit and Credit
accounts, surrogate accounts are used

Surrogate Account

Surrogate Account: Alternative account to the Debit or Credit side of the Leg

The system determines which account (Primary or Surrogate) corresponds to Debit


and which to Credit by using the Field SURROGATE.AC in TFS.TRANSACTION

Input FROM and TO transactions and the system would default the accounts as
FROM and TO accounts

Other Features

TFS supports Inter company transactions, provided the CUSTOMER is shared


between the T24 Company where the Customer of the financial institution
belongs to and the T24 Company that the user is currently logged onto

Market exchange Profit/Loss can be calculated by the Teller using TFS

In case of a Transaction which does not attract the calculation of Market exchange
profit/loss, accounting entries will not account for the profit or Loss. E.g. a Cash
deposit

In case of transactions like Currency exchange, Market exchange profit or loss is


accounted for

Bill Payment

Carry out a transaction of a Bill Payment

Either enter the Payee account as a Surrogate account or as the Beneficiary

TFS doesn’t support Wire/Telex transfers or Swift generation

The beneficiary details can be input in the Bill Payment Tab

Beneficiary Tab, if a Hot field, will validate the account on input

 Input a transaction for your customer using his USD account as the Primary Account
 Deposit an amount of USD 10,000 in denominations of USD100
 Pay a Bill amounting to USD 2000 to another USD account

 Accept all overrides
 While validating the transaction, view the entries being posted to the Wash through account
 In the results tab, view the Child transactions created

Till closure – Manadatory details

► At the end of the day, tills are closed and balances are transfered back to vault

► While closing, teller is prompted for the till balance in each currency and this is
compared with the currency wise balance maintained in T24 as till balance.
► In case of discrepancies, such difference will be posted to overage or shortage
accounts and physically tills are closed
► Next day, till could be again alloted to the same Teller or to a different Teller
