PBL FOR EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP (FALL 2019)

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 Hopewell City is surrounded by


Chesterfield, Charles City, Prince George
and Colonial Heights Public Schools.
 Hopewell City Public Schools is a public
school district located in Hopewell, Virginia.
 There are three elementary schools, one
middle school, one high school and one
alternative school.
 There are approximately 4,292 students
attending Hopewell City Public Schools in
grades K-12.
Additional Background Information

 Hopewell High School (HHS) serves students in grades


9-12.
 Approximately 1151 students attending HHS.
 253 students represent the graduating Class of 2020.
 103 Seniors with a 3.0 or better.
 69% of the student body is majority African American.
 HHS currently has 120 faculty and staff members.
 HHS has community college partnerships with John
Tyler Community College and Bryant & Stratton
College.

Step 1:
INFORMATION FROM RESEARCH

In 2018, Virginia Beach Public Schools


adopted the Latin Honor system instead
of using the traditional valedictorian and
salutatorian.

12 honor graduates being recognized from the

similar to the Latin Honor System to recognize more needs to be changed”

Step 3:
Action Plan
 Honor Cords will be used for distinction for
GPA’s 3.0 and above.
 Cords will be for:
*All graduates earning a 3.5 GPA are
awarded the Cum Laude designation
*All graduates earning a 3.76 GPA are
awarded the Magna Cum Laude designation
*All graduates earning a 4.0 GPA are
awarded the Summa Cum Laude designation

 This year the we will have a valedictorian and


salutatorian.
Step 4:
Final Thoughts

 We enjoyed the PBL!


 We are glad we will be able to
recognize more outstanding students.
 We can’t wait to see the end results on
Saturday, June 6, 2020@ 1:00PM at
Virginia State University.
