The sin of Jacob, and the train of events to which it
led, had not failed to exert an influence for evil--an
influence that revealed its bitter fruit in the
character and life of his sons. As these sons arrived
at manhood they developed serious faults. The
results of polygamy were manifest in the household.
This terrible evil tends to dry up the very springs of
love, and its influence weakens the most sacred
ties. The jealousy of the several mothers had
embittered the family relation, the children had
grown up contentious and impatient of control, and
the father's life was darkened with anxiety and
grief. “BUT”
There was one, however, of a widely
different character – the elder son of
Rachel, Joseph, whose rare personal
beauty seemed but to reflect an inward
beauty of mind and heart. Pure, active,
and joyous, the lad gave evidence also a
moral earnestness and firmness. He
listened to his father’s instructions, and
loved to obey God.

by love, he would be regarded by
God as a deluded enthusiast or an
ambitious hypocrite. (AA 318,319)
A noble character is not the result
of accident; it is not due to special
favors or endowments of
providence. It is a result of self-
discipline, of subjection of the
lower to the higher nature, of the
surrender of self to the service of
God and man.
An upright character is of greater worth
than the gold of ophir. Without it no one
can rise to an honorable eminence. But
character is not inherited. It cannot be
bought. Moral excellence and fine
mental qualities are not the result of
accident. The most precious gifts are of
no value unless they are improved.
The formation of noble character is
a work of a lifetime and must be the
result of diligent and persevering
effort. God gives opportunities;
success depends upon the use of
made of them.
God called us and commissioned us to
preach the gospel of salvation to all

to follow that we may gain people to
follow Christ and to be a light to the
world therefore our influence is the
great message .
The message is clear, our
influence is a great message to
the people. In our home, to the
community and our relationship
to our beloved brother is a great
message that compels the love
of people that we have a true
God.

people saw the good character in him for
