FUTURE OF OIL FOR

TRANSPORTATION
INTRODUCTION

 Oil: Life blood of industrialized nation.

 Oil has become the world`s most important source of
energy since mid 1950`s.
 The industry, however, is facing some of the most
profound challenges in its history.
HOW IMPORTANT IS OIL?

 Nearly 70% of all oil consumed in U.S is used for

transportation.
 In an international energy outlook 2016, transportation
sector delivered energy consumption increased at an
annual rate of 1.4% from 104 quadrillion Btu in 2012 to
155 quadrillion Btu in 2040.
INDIA`S DOMESTIC PRODUCTION AND
CONSUMPTION
ALTERNATIVE SOURCES..!!

Renewable resources are

 Bio diesel
 Bio alcohol
 Hydrogen
 Chemically stored electricity (batteries and fuel cells)
 Solar ,nuclear energy
HOW ABOUT ELECTRIC VEHICLES?

Large propulsion systems :

 These are only practical with IC engines and fuel serves as
a cheap and readily available power source.
 These systems are mainly influenced by 3 factors:
1) Energy to weight ratio
2) Weight
3) Temperature
Electric cars:
 Gasoline powered car has an efficiency of 20% whereas a
battery powered car has an efficiency of nearly 72%
 Despite solar and nuclear energies, the electricity
generated at power plants using combustion process
include :
1) 40% for fuel consumption,
2) 90% for current conversion and
3) 72% of efficiency
Overall efficiency= (90+40-72)= 26%
IS THE CHANGE SUSTAINABLE?

 Improving the technology through innovation helps in

better identification of oil reserves.
 As oil is not stagnant and it flows from one place to
another, we can do exploration activities at places where
we haven`t thought of doing so.
CONCLUSION

We strongly believe that, the oil and gas industry will be in a

safe position even though, the alternate source come into
existence.
Do remember that nearly 90% of passenger vehicles on the
road today run on oil and will be with us for a long time.
Also, the major challenge is public must afford and accept
alternate fuel vehicles
“ The spark of passion ignites the fuel for
innovation”.
