MK 19 40mm Machine Gun

MOD 3
DESCRIPTION:

The MK19 40mm Machine gun, MOD 3 is a Self-Powered,


air cooled, fully automatic weapon. It uses linked ammunition
and fires from the open bolt mode using a modified blow-back
type mechanism. The weapon is designed to fire 40mm high
velocity series grenade rounds and can be either ground or
vehicle mounted.

FIRING SITUATION:
1) Move Safety switch to “SAFE”
2) Open Top Cover assembly
3) Take ammunition from Feed Tray
4) Remove rounds from chamber
5) Charge weapon
6) Inspect chamber
7) Place Safety switch to “FIRE”
8) Release bolt forward
9) Place Safety switch to “SAFE”
CLEARING

NONFIRING SITUATION:
1) Place Safety switch to “SAFE”
2) Open Top cover assembly
3) Lower one charging handle
4) Pull slightly rearward to clear
5) Ride bolt forward
6) Return handle to forward position
DISASSEMBLY

1) Clear weapon
2) Remove secondary drive lever
3) Remove top cover assembly
4) Remove feed slide assembly and feed tray
5) Remove bolt and backplate assembly
6) Remove primary drive lever and vertical cam
7) Remove sear assembly
8) Remove alignment guide
9) Remove the ogive plunger assembly
10) Remove the round-positioning block
11) Remove charger assemblies from both sides
ASSEMBLY

1) Replace charger assemblies


2) Replace the round-positioning block
3) Replace the ogive plunger
4) Replace the alignment guide
5) Replace the primary drive lever and vertical cam
6) Attach the sear assembly
7) Insert the bolt and backplate assembly
8) Place feed tray assembly on the receiver
9) Attach the top cover assembly
10) Replace the secondary drive lever
LOADING

1) Insert first round first (female link first)


2) Push round across secondary feed pawl
3) Charge weapon and lock handles forward
4) Place safety switch on “FIRE” and press trigger
5) Lock bolt to the rear
6) Ensure safety switch is on “SAFE”
7) Lock charging handles forward
8) Ready to Fire
MALFUNCTIONS & CORRECTIONS

Sluggish Gun: Excessive friction from dirt, worn parts

Runaway Gun: Worn parts, short recoil of bolt assembly

Immediate Action: Recharge and attempt to fire

Remedial Action:
1) Unload and clear weapon
2) Inspect weapon and ammunition

Corrective Action: Use Table 2-1 to correct problem
