SINDROME DEL TUNEL
CARPIANO

It is a condition in which there is

excessive pressure on the median nerve.
This is the nerve in the wrist that allows
sensitivity and movement to parts of the
hand. Carpal tunnel syndrome can cause
numbness, tingling, weakness, or
muscle damage in the hand and fingers.
The median nerve provides sensation and movement next to the
hand where the thumb is located. This includes the palm of the
hand, the thumb, the index finger, the middle finger, and the side
of the ring finger on the side of the thumb; except the little
finger.
SINTOMAS
* Clumsiness of the hand when grasping objects
* Numbness or tingling in the thumb and the next two or three fingers of one or both
hands
* Numbness or tingling in the palm of the hand
* Pain that extends to the elbow
* Pain in the hand or wrist in one or both hands
* Problems with fine movements of the fingers (coordination) in one or both hands
* Muscle atrophy below the thumb (in advanced or prolonged cases)
TRATAMIENTO

* Use a splint at night for a few weeks. If this does not help, it may be necessary
to use it during the day.
* Avoid sleeping on the wrists.
* Apply cold or hot compresses on the affected area.
PUESTOS DE TRABAJO
*Cleaning and packing meat, poultry or fish.

in the wrist and hand, due to the shape and size, infectious diseases, and substance
abuse.
RELACION CON EL PUESTO
DE TRABAJO
PREVENCION
The redesign of tools or tool handles is recommended so that the user's
wrists can maintain a more comfortable position during the completion of
the task.

Redesign the jobs. Other possibilities are modifying the current method to
perform a task, incorporate more breaks, and rotate workers between
tasks.
PREVENCION
• As prevention measures, the redesign of tools and methods is
preferable to administrative means such as the rotation of
workers.

• Incorporate tools and equipment with a more appropriate

design to reduce the risk of injury to the wrist, adapting work
to man and not man to work.

• Schedule active pauses with gentle movements and

relaxation.
