4. Hyperbole- is an exaggerated statement employing inflated language.

“ This heat I mutter. Melts the very

5. Paradox- is a seemingly contradictory statement that turns out to be partly true. Examples:
“All animals are equal, but some are

“Chocolate was her Achilles’ heel.”

Eden.” 7. Synecdoche- can be a part that is used to suggest the whole or that of the whole for a part.
Examples:
“The world is not treating me well.”
“The arrow struck me.”
8. Irony- is the use of language which when taken literally, expresses the contrary of what is meant.
Examples:
“ Oh great! Now, you have broken my
camera.”
“ Wow, you could win an award for
