Trans palatal appliance Indication
Trans palatal arch runs across the palatal vault avoiding contact with soft
tissue.
Ideally, the appliance should be formed so that it lies passive in the molar
sheaths and contoured to the palatal tissue to maintain about 2 mm from the
mucosa . This will allow optimal comfort without impingement into the
palatal mucosa.
If the TPA is placed 6-8 mm down from palate it can induce molar intrusion
due to tongue pressure.
It is made by 0.9mm stainless steel round wire when it is soldered to the
molar bands with loop placed in the middle of palate so that wire is placed 2
mm from the roof of palate.
