Functions
● Objectives:
● I can represent an exponential functions thru its:
table of values, graphs, and equations.
● I can graph exponential functions.
An exponential function can be represented through its table of values .
These values which are derived from its equivalent equation are the basis in
sketching its graph.

Examples # 1
Give the following table of values, identify those which exhibit an
exponential trend.
X 3 4 5 6 7
1. Y 11 12 13 14 15

M 1 2 3 4 5
2.
N
P 1 2 3   4 5
3.
Q 54 36 24 16

Note:
A table of values exhibits an exponential functions if there is a common
ratio.

Example # 2
Construct a table of values for the exponential functions.

1. Evaluate the given function for x = 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5

X 1 2 3 4 5

Y 1 2
The graph of exponential function is the primary tool used in
describing its behavior and characteristics.

Remember:
DOMAIN is the set of first coordinates in the ordered pairs of a
function.
RANGE is the set of second coordinates in the ordered pairs of a
function.
Y INTERCEPT is the point of intersection of the graph of the
function and the y – axis. On the y-axis. x=0
X INTERCEPT is the point of intersection of the graph of the
function and the x – axis. On the x – axis, f(x) = 0
ASYMPTOTES are the lines the graph of a function approaches but
never touches.

Solve for y intercept.
