Cuidados postoperatorios
Lo siguiente debe estar al lado de la cama:

• Tubo traqueotomía de repuesto y uno más pequeño, tijeras, cintas de repuesto y lubricante
• Aspirador y catéteres
• Una enfermera
• Un suministro de aire humidificado y una bolsa Ambu

• Radiografía de tórax
• Succión a intervalos de una hora durante las primeras 12 a 24 horas, y posteriormente según sea necesario
• Humidificación adecuada de forma continua durante la primera semana
• Las cintas se cambian diariamente
• El tubo de traqueotomía se cambia 7 días
Complicaciones
Intraoperatorio
• Sangrado
• Neumotórax o posiblemente un neumomediastino
• Decanulación accidental

Postoperatorio
• Bloqueo y desplazamiento del tubo de traqueotomía
• Neumonía postoperatoria
• Enfisema quirúrgico
• Hemorragia
• Erosión de la pared anterior de la tráquea
