Data Security

FROM A SOFTWARE & HARDWARE PERSPECTIVE

Overview of Presentation

 We’ll be looking at:

 Some software and hardware solutions to achieving data security

 The importance of data security

 And possible consequences of not implementing measures to secure clients’ data in a

business.
What is Data Security?

 Data security is both the practice and the technology involved in protecting

valuable and sensitive company and/ or customer data, such as personal or

financial information.

 This can be achieved using hardware and software based tools.

Types of software based data security

 Types of data security controls include:

 Passwords

 Antiviruses & Firewalls

 Encryption
Password
Authentication
Passwords and password managers

 Passwords represents the simplest form of data protection that can be implemented in most use

cases.

 A password is a combination of characters that is typically privately memorized by those that has

access to that data.

 Password mangers are software tools which provide to its user, the ability to easily store, manage

and sometimes generate multiple secure passwords.

Antiviruses and
Firewalls
Antiviruses and Firewalls

 Antivirus also known as anti-malware, is software used to prevent, detect, and remove software

viruses/malware.

 Firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network

traffic based on predetermined security rules.

 These software serves as a foundational security system protecting from malicious software

attacks.
Encryption
Encryption

 Encryption is the process of encoding information. This process converts the original

representation of the information, known as plaintext, into an alternative form known as

ciphertext.

 Only authorized parties can decipher a ciphertext back to plaintext and access the original

information.
