What are the Entry
Requirements?
College regulations stipulate that applicants to the Full Time course must:
• have been out of full-time education from at least June 2018   
• have GCSE Grade C or above in English
• have GCSE Grade C or above in Mathematics (or equivalent numeracy
qualification)

• have been out of full-time education from at least June 2018  
• have GCSE Grade C or above in English or equivalent Literacy Qualification
•have GCSE Grade C or above in Mathematics or equivalent numeracy
qualification

Proof of qualifications is required when you enrol (August),


e.g. exam certificates
Course Content
Student on each Pathway will complete 6 modules on the course, five core modules
and a sixth determined by the college.
The five core modules will include two modules of each of the subjects on their
pathways alongside a Study Skills module.

For example: History/English Pathway

•Study Skills
•+ Option e.g. NICATs Maths or Law
How will I be
assessed?
• The core modules are assessed by both coursework and final exams:
• Within each module the breakdown is:
• 50% Coursework
• 50% Exams
• Each Module is worth 20% of the final grade awarded
• Alongside the core modules students complete a Study Skills portfolio which must be submitted to be
able to pass the course
• Example Progression Requirements:
• QUB/Ulster (Subject to change by University)
• English 65-70%
• Social Work 70%
• Sociology 65% -70%
• Psychology 65%- 70%
• History 65% -70%

Additional Support for
Exams
• Additional support for exams is available to you if you have a confirmed disability, learning
difficulty or long term medical condition.

Examples of additional support:

• If you have exams as part of your course and require additional support you must contact
the Inclusive Learning Team and complete a LS1 Form at the start of the academic year.

Funding
•The Education Authority offers a limited number of Further Education
•There is a limited budget for Further Education Grants
•Application forms to apply for funding for the 20/21 academic session will be
available from April 2020 onwards and can be downloaded from EA website
•The closing date for full time/part time applications will be end of September
2020

Full Time Programmes – No Fee

Part Time Programmes Full Fee £600


Concessionary Fee £390

•Fee required at Time of enrolment for Part time this will be August

•Fees can be paid in instalments with a quarter paid up front and three monthly
instalments afterwards

•Even if you leave the course the remainder of the fee must be paid
Timetables
• Full Time Students will have 16 hours of classes per week across a
minimum of three days dependent on the option Module be taken.

• Part time Students will have 7.5 hours of classes per week:
• History/Politics (Evening – Tues and Thurs)
• Sociology/Psychology (Evening – Wednesday and Thursday)
• Sociology/Psychology (Day- Wednesday and Thursday AM)
What do students say about the
course?
In terms of challenges, I would say the biggest hurdle was balancing
uni work with life. Family responsibilities and work play a much bigger
role for us than school-leavers. We have to balance everything a lot
more, which can be overwhelming at times.
