Analytical exposition
 analytical exposition is a type of argumentative
text. Its social function is to persuade the readers
or listeners that the idea is an important matter
(good, bad, necessary, harmful, needs to be done,
beneficial, etc)
Generic Structure
 Thesis (introduction)
It introduces the topic (what the writer is talking about) and
indicates the writer’s position. Therefore, this part should end
with the expressions of reasoning or proving.
 Arguments (body)

It contains several reasons, facts, examples, or statistic to


support the writer’s position.
 Reiteration (conclusion)

It restates the writer’s position that has been stated in the


thesis.
Language Features
 Using sequence connective adverbs elaborating and itemizing
steps in an argument. Examples: firstly, secondly, next, finally
 Using causal conjunction
Explaining the cause of an event. Examples: because, due to,
since
 Using constrative conjunction
Connecting contrastive sentences. Example : but, nevertheless,
however.
 Using simple present tense
To explain something happening in the present time.
Example: Bruno is a quiet boy.
 Focussing on generic human and non human
participants. Examples: car, pollution, leaded
petrol car.
 Using abstract nouns. Example: policy, rule.
 Using modal verbs. Examples : must, can, should
 Using adverbs. Example: certainly
 Using passive sentences. Examples: it is
manufactured in Jakarta.
Summer is a wonderful time to spend at West Beach.
It is a beach with light- colored, soft sand. The
coastline goes on for a long way and many people
enjoy walking along it. Children like to play in the
surf and walk along the rocks that are visible at low
tide. This is a fun beach for people of all ages.

Most teenagers and young adults do not know what they
want to do for the rest of their lives. It is a big decision.
There are a number of things you can do to narrow the
choices. For example you can take an interest test, do
some research on your own about a career, try volunteer
work in the field in which you are interested, or “job-
shadow”, in which you spend a day with a person who
is working in a field that interests you. These are just a
few helpful ideas as you begin to choose a career.
