OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students would be able
to :

1. Describe the nature of drama


and its origins
2. Define drama and its importance
in the olden times; and
3. Apply learnings about drama
through actual writing.
What is drama?
 Drama is a literary work that is
intended to be presented on stage in
front of an audience or a group of an
audience.
 Usually involves a conflict between the

main character or the protagonist, the


antagonist, and the supporting
characters
 Comes in different types or genres
What is drama?
 Type of literature that takes
advantage of people’s visual
and auditory senses.
 Drama is not limited to what

you read and imagine, unlike


in poetry and fiction.
 Brings imagination to life
What is drama?
 You see and hear everything
right before your eyes.
 Drama is entertaining to most

visual learners.

Contains elements such as
characters, plot, and
dialogue
Origin of Drama
The first forms of drama
originated in Greece at
about 2500 years ago.

In the present:
 Drama evolved into a complete
theatrical productions that
involve elaborate sets and
dozens of fully made-up
actors with fantastic costumes.

box and do not anymore
adhere to the fixed formula.
 Writers are more focused on

the readers and audience in


mind.
 In a way, the reader becomes

the director of the drama.

 Picka picture then make a
short script based on your
personal interpretation. Write
it on a separate sheet of
paper.

as the basis of your interpretation?
2. What were the things that you first
considered when you first wrote
the script?
3. What were the learnings and
difficulties that you encountered in
the course of writing your script?
ACTIVITY
 Form groups. Bring your
individual scripts in the group
and merge your stories into
one. Make a short play and
present it to the class. The
play will run for a maximum of
10 minutes.
