What is diabetes mellitus?

Diabetes mellitus (DM), commonly


known as diabetes, is a group of 
metabolic disorders characterized by a 
high blood sugar level over a prolonged
period of time
Main types of diabetes mellitus

Type 1
Type 1 diabetes, once known as juvenile
diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a
chronic condition in which the pancreas
produces little or no insulin
symptoms
Increased thirst
Frequent urination
Bed-wetting in children who previously
didn't wet the bed during the night

Unintended weight loss

Symptoms

Slow-healing sores
Frequent infections
Areas of darkened skin, usually in the armpits
and neck
Causes

why this happens is unknown, although


genetics and environmental factors, such
as being overweight and inactive, seem to
be contributing factors.
