REDUCED

BIODIVERSITY
WHAT IS REDUCED BIODIVERSITY?
Biodiversity loss is the extinction of species (plant or
animal) worldwide, and also the local reduction or
loss of species in a certain habitat. The main cause of
loss of biodiversity can be attributed to the influence
of human being’s on the world’s ecosystem
WHAT ARE THE FACTORS CAUSING
THE REDUCTION OF BIODIVERSITY?
• HABITAT LOSS AND DEGRADATION – identified to be a
significant factor in loss of ecological services due to direct affects
as well as biodiversity loss.
• CLIMATE CHANGE – through heat stress and drought stress
• EXCESSIVE NUTRIENT LOAD – other forms of pollution
• OVEREXPLOITATION OF RESOURCES – when the activities
connected with capturing and harvesting a renewable natural
resources in a particular area is excessively intense, the resources
itself may become exhausted
EFFECTS ON THE FOLLOWING:
• FAMILY FARMING – the effect of organic farming on biodiversity can be
modified by landscape heterogeneity, land use intensity and time since
conversion to organic farming.
• BUSINESS – stem primarily from land use and waste generation. Usually
occur at the same time and place as business activities. Can include habitat
loss and degradation, erosion, species loss, air and water pollution, soil
and water contamination.
• HUMAN AND SOCIETY – human affect biodiversity by their population
number, use of land and their lifestyle, causing damage to habitat for
species.
• CITIES – the growth of cities may cause biodiversity to decline by
fragmenting or destroying large areas of natural habitat on which
many species depend. Although there are many causes of habitat
loss, urbanization has been shown to be one of the most damaging
in terms of numbers of species loss or threatened.
• COUNTRIES – there will be shortage of products, thus, the
economical rate of the particular country will decrease.
