DEFINATION

 COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES
 Comparative adjectives are used to compare
differences between the two objects they
modify (larger, smaller, faster, higher). They
are used in sentences where two nouns are
compared, in this pattern:
 Noun(subject) + verb + comparative adjective
+ than + noun (object).
USAGE
A comparative adjective is just a little different, but once you get used to
the system of creating a comparative adjective from a regular adjective it's
like second nature. The difference lies in the number of syllables and the
ending of the word. These two components will help you select the proper
suffix to add.
 For an adjective with one syllable: add the ending -er to the end of the
adjective to create the comparative form. For example, tall becomes
taller.
 For an adjective with two syllables that ends in -y: - drop the y and add
-ier. For example, pretty becomes prettier and early becomes earlier.
 For an adjective with two syllables that does not end in -y: add the word
"more" before the adjective. For example, purple becomes more purple.
 For an adjective with three or more syllables: use the word "more" before
the adjective. For example, beautiful becomes more beautiful.
EXAMPLE
To make a one-syllable adjective comparative, all you need to do is
add -er to the end of it.
So short becomes shorter, cold becomes colder, and sweet
becomes sweeter.
 With two-syllable words, there are a couple of methods you can
use. If the adjective ends in -y, you change the Y to an I and
add -er. So for example, happy
becomes happier, friendly becomes friendlier,
and curly becomes curlier.
 If the two-syllable adjective doesn’t end in -y, just
add more or less before it. This way, perfect becomes more
perfect, and modern becomes less modern. Same with
adjectives that have three or more
syllables. Beautiful becomes more beautiful,
and comfortable becomes less comfortable.
The second item of comparison can
be omitted if it is clear from the
context (final example below).
 EXAMPLES
 My house is larger than hers.
 This box is smaller than the one I lost.
 Your dog runs faster than Jim's dog.
 The rock flew higher than the roof.
 Jimand Jack are both my friends, but I like
Jack better. ("than Jim" is understood)
